Arkansas & Sri Lanka? Makes sense to me…

It all begins with an idea.

Global Connections Through Music: Our Affiliate Program in Sri Lanka

At the heart of classical music lies connection—between musicians, cultures, and generations. Through our affiliate program in Sri Lanka, we are building a bridge between young musicians in Nugegoda and our students here in Northwest Arkansas, a diverse and vibrant community where many cultures come together.

Why Sri Lanka?

Nugegoda, Sri Lanka, is home to a budding new community music program, where young musicians gather to study a variety of instruments and develop their artistry. Our partnership is focused on cultural diplomacy through music, friendship & creating opportunities for students in both regions to learn from one another, share their traditions, and expand their musical perspectives.

How It Works

Monthly Musical Exchanges – Our students and young musicians in Sri Lanka meet virtually once a month to discuss their musical progress, share insights, and explore cross-cultural influences in classical music.

Building Bridges Across Cultures – Northwest Arkansas is a uniquely diverse and international community, making it the perfect place to foster meaningful musical connections. By engaging in these discussions, students develop a deeper appreciation for global perspectives on music while strengthening their own artistic voices.

Inspiration from a Living Legend – Our students have had the extraordinary opportunity to learn from Sri Lanka’s most renowned classical musician, Ms. Malinee Peris De Silva who happens to be a part time resident of Bella Vista. At 96 years old, she continues to teach at George Washington University in DC. When she is here, she mentors and inspires our musicians, and in turn, ironically, we are introducing young musicians in Sri Lanka to her and her remarkable story.

A Symbiotic Partnership

This initiative is more than just an educational exchange—it’s a living, breathing collaboration between students, educators, and cultures. As we move forward, we are excited to explore new ways to strengthen this musical connection, ensuring that young musicians in both Northwest Arkansas and Sri Lanka can grow, learn, and inspire one another.

We invite you to follow our journey as we continue to build this program and bring the world of classical music closer together—one note at a time.
